In conjunction with MTU's Center for Water and Society and UMD's Natural Resources Research Institute, as the expedition makes its way around the shoreline, we will be conducting a survey of what people think about Lake Superior, its watershed, and the issues facing them. In the collection of opinions, thoughts and answers to a short questionaire, a valuable understanding can be gained of the perspectives of communities around the lake and the sociological aspect of the complex issue of water and the environment on both sides of the border.

The survey is also be available online for everyone to take - There may be some interesting comparisons to make between the wider demography of the world wide web and the people who live, work and play on the shores and areas of the lake itself.

Fast facts:

  • Web survey available here (click me)
  • 36 Questions in 6 categories, from demography and relation to the lake, to watershed and environmental perspectives
  • Estimated completion time ~11 minutes
  • Collected through personal interviews, questionaires at events, and a separate survey available on the internet
  • Created through a realtime collaboration between researchers facilitated by google docs
  • Completely anonymous and non-obligatory, of course, but we'd really appreciate it!
