Kate and Mike have always been prominent in conservation activities in the Midwest. Whether through their work with the Audubon Center of the Northwoods or the International Wolf Center, or through their numerous outdoor books, their dedication to public education about the preservation of our natural world has been an inspiration to all. Now in their "retirement" they are tackling one of our most-critical conservation issues by publicizing the tremendous, contentious, and difficult problem of freshwater conservation. Although we in the Upper Midwest have been blessed with an abundance of water, our neighbors in the South and West are increasingly beset with water shortages that will only quickly worsen. Through Full Circle Superior, Mike and Kate are calling much-needed attention to the problem by what is not only a highly appropriate gesture, but also an actual hands-on assessment of local water conditions. Join them all along the way via their blog and facebook entries, and wish them well in their trek.

To walk around the lake, in the hope that we will care more about the environment we create for ourselves, and the rest of life... their idea is simple, their zeal and dedication remarkable. And we hope their commitment is contagious.
