Our media plan is in the planning and realization stage. Please check back in future for more updates.
There will be a support team consisting of at least two team members dedicated to supplementing the hike and helping with communications and media. One member will maintain the office, field phone calls, keep the overall site up to date and file the field data as it is received from each day. The second person will follow the team along the expedition, helping with logistics in the field and handling arrangements for talks and meetings.
The team will maintain an active, world-class website at http://www.fullcirclesuperior.org, as well as Facebook and twitter communications.
Sam Cook, the award winning outdoors writer for the Duluth News Tribune has confirmed he will cover the trip. He is their lead outdoor columnist and a very popular regional writer.
Contacts will be made with public radio and the support team will contact local radio stations and newspapers in advance of our arrival in communities to arrange interviews.
We will have updates to our three local newspapers and regional publications – Lake Country Journal, Wisconsin Trails, and Askov American.
We will be writing 2 books and several articles about the experience and the lake which will be published by Lake Superior Magazine.
Kate will also be writing for the Minnesota Waters newsletter.
The team will begin the Minnesota portion of the trip in coordination with the Grand Marais Folk Festival.
Our support team will coordinate our arrival in major communities to provide talks that will be delivered to the public, schools, and colleges. The team will be in contact with local environmental groups as well.
Contacts will be made with major newspapers in all three states and Ontario with press releases sent out from the support team each week.
The tourism bureaus for the three states and Ontario will be contacted and invited to share in the trip through their media outlets.
Organizations, museums, and parks located on the shore and with missions related to the lake will be communicated with throughout the trip.
Applications for sponsorship will be made to numerous organizations.
The expedition is establishing collaborations with schools who will monitor the journey in classrooms in the spring and fall (year around schools can also monitor the summer months). This will be offered to schools throughout the region and we anticipate 50 - 100 schools participating in this educational experience since our four decades of educational work has provided numerous school contacts in both MN and WI. See educational outreach for more information.
The Wisconsin Charter School Association and the Department of Public Instruction have both agreed to make the website available to schools and help us connect both in the planning and the actual trip experiences.
Two schools are already committed. They will all receive email and newsletter updates and we will post problems for them to help us solve as we get ready.
